Regrets

A

nd I wasn't truly satisfied with my life as the acting luna of Greenwoods. After forcing the words out of my tight throat, all I wanted to do was flee quickly to avoid seeing that sympathetic expression on his attractive face. I was such an idiot for giving in to Asshole Dane's seduction.

How could I have been so stupid?

"Acting luna?" I felt uneasy since he was motionless. "Yes," I said. I was surprised at how composed my voice sounded, given how shaky I felt.

I had to keep my eyes off Jason because I was too scared of his response. I didn't want to witness his contempt or sympathy for me for falling for such gullible promises. He inhaled deeply, yet it was difficult to read his face. "Then why did I find you as a rogue and not with your pack?"

I took a breath too, mostly to buy myself a little extra time. "Well, we dated for a few years as I carried out Luna's tasks. He actually got to the point where he proposed to me, but he ended things because he met his true love."

"Did you run away?" Jason queried. I was surprised by how calm his voice was, and I was also comforted by the tone. "Not at all. I did nothing but lounge around. Then he gave me the instruction to train his mate to perform the task.

For as long as I could, I continued doing it. I finally told him off because I was too angry to continue. She heard us talking and came to the conclusion that we were dating. He made some extremely disparaging remarks about me. Jason was becoming a little agitated now. His body was tense, and I could feel it through the bond. "What did he say?"

I couldn't bear to ignore him. "That I meant nothing, that I was just a replacement for her while he was waiting." It was the first time I had ever witnessed Jason's angry wolf sign—a tiny growl. Not even the time I'd been purposefully upsetting him. Admitting my foolish behavior afterward was difficult.

"So, I lost my temper and challenged her for the Luna title." I winced. I sounded like a foolish person in need. He grinned a little, but he remained tense. "How did that go?" For a moment, I was able to give him back the smile. "I was able to defeat her. Before I started going crazy, I was a tracker and scout. Although I'm not very strong, I am quick and have experience.

Heidi seems like she would be a great cheerleader, but that requires a lot of effort and commitment, and I don't think she has those qualities.

I apologize, but even though she was trained by Alpha Dane—my little moniker for him—she was unable to surpass my skills. At that point, I didn't even want to be his acting lunatic. I merely wanted to stay in my pack when I cooled down, so I thought I'd see whether she could hold the title after I renounced it.
